Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in a small town called sighet. He was jewish and suffered through the holocaust and survived. He tells his story by writing the book Night Elie Wiesel wanted to warn us. he gave us this warning using many rhetorical devices. I am going to list 2 and tell you why he wrote the book Night. the first literary device he used in the book night was personification. He used this device quite a few times. His first use of personification was “confidence soared” (27). Confidence can't really soar, but he said that because the jews had built up too much confidence and were oblivious to what was around them like the nazis and how they were capturing the jews. He said this to warn us and not get too confident in our daily lives and learn to trust people. the second use of personification was “Jealousy devoured us, consumed us.” (59).
