Defining the Proper Practice of Physician Assisted Suicide The idea of physician assisted suicide is a very troublesome issue that tend to cause disagreement between a lot of people in modern times. The fact that modern medicine can prolong life has been seen throughout recent generations, but now that lives have been extended for so long some people would like to use prevailing medicine to put an end to their own lives prematurely. Cancer patients may live to see a few extra months or years through chemotherapy and radiation but others may not want to go through the suffering that comes along with such treatments like pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, anemia, lymphedema, infections to name a few. Many people believe that is never right to take one's own life and thus having a physician take part in in giving a person access to drugs that will allow them to end their own life would be definition of an immoral society. According to Kerby Anderson contends that physician-assisted suicide is immoral because it violates the sanctity of life. Physician-assisted suicide in general, has proven to be difficult, controversial issues for a lot of physicians. It is also seems contradictory for medical professionals who by definition are supposed to be the healers of society and to be administering life ending medications to patients instead of treating them for whatever underlying problems are causing their suicidal wishes. Although some physicians feel that it is not ethical to help their patients die, other physicians believe fulfilling a patient's wish to end his suffering at the end of life is part of the responsibility a physician accepts when caring for the person.
