In the book Tangerine written by Edward Bloor, there are many examples of discrimination and prejudice. The book is about a boy named Paul Fisher who moves from Houston to a town in Florida called Tangerine County. He must adapt to the new environment and make new friends, one of his friends is Joey Castello. Joey has a brother who dies in the book, and when Joey goes to Paul's new school, he gets bullied by Paul's new friends Tino, Victor, and Luis about his dead brother. He also gets bullied due to his lack of skill in soccer. On Tuesday September 5th Mike Costello died. He was struck by lightning during his football practice. People started calling ambulances and trying to give him CPR, but he had no response. Out of the crowd that tried to help Mike, two teenagers started laughing and making jokes. These two teenagers were Erik Fisher, Paul's older brother, and Erik's mischievous friend Arthur. All the parents tried to schedule practice for the mornings when there was no lighting.
