Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is a book about how racism is so ingrained into the way people think,act, how ingrained it is into our laws and government, and how society has villainized African americans. You can see this throughout time, it doesn't just stop in the 1930s, and TKAM brings a lot of this to light. The theme of the novel is to show how prejudice has been ingrained into society and the things that need to be done to get rid of this prejudice.

Bbut, there was one part of the book that really showed this. Iit was when Jjem was talking to Aatticus and Jem, a child, was even commenting on the injustice system and how the racial bias is unfair ¨It was jem's turn to cry his face was streaked with angry tears…it ain't right atticus said jem no son it ain't right.¨(242) This was a significant moment in the book and shows how strong the discrimination was. It was so strong a child could understand that if you see this multiple times throughout the book, jem is gaining a better understanding of the world around him. this is something future generations shouldn't have to worry about. You can see a lot of this is present day young children gaining an understanding of social prejudice. Tand this is important to highlight in the book you would think that if people who were black and white fell and love and had a child, people would become more accepting but, it was even harder.
