May Waters “When you really know somebody you can’t hate them. Or maybe it’s just that you can’t really know them until you stop hating them,” said Orson Scott Card, Speaker for the Dead. People are hateful because they are prejudiced. That is shown in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Merchant of Venice, and the Holocaust. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Junior chose to transfer to a white school and his best friend Rowdy that lived in the Indian reservation betrayed him. He made it on the varsity basketball team. One of the first games they played was against his old Indian reservation. When they walked in, all the Indians turned their backs to him except Rowdy. “And as I ran onto the court, somebody in the crowd threw a quarter at me.
