Prejudice has affected a lot of people in american society. In To Kill a Mockingbird there is a lot of prejudice in Maycomb Alabama. The story is written about a family called the Finches. The members of the family are Jem, Scout, Calpurnia, and Atticus. Atticus and the family try to help save a black man's life from the Ewells. Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, prejudice is shown as something that corrupts the citizens of Maycomb. This is shown through Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell, and Mayella Ewell.
Tom Robinson gets discriminated because he is an African American. First, Mayella accuses him of raping her even though she liked him and went to kiss him first. Then Bob, her father saw through the window and Mayella saw him. Mayella knew she was going to get beaten because Bob has done it before so she started screaming to make it look like Tom was harassing her. Secondly bob accuses Tom of raping Mayella. Even though Bob doesn’t know for sure because he didn’t see the whole thing unfold. Lastly the jury sentencing Tom to jail, partially because he is black and every black person down south during the time gets discriminated. Bob is the town drunk and he is a horrible guy. He abuses his daughter Mayella and he doesn’t like African Americans. Tom Robinson is an African American and Bob doesn’t like him. First off becauses he is black, and his daughter Mayella attempted him and Bob was not okay with that. First, the Ewells told the sheriff that Tom raped Mayella and of course the sheriff believed them because he was white and Tom was black. Secondly, Bob discriminated black people. He didn’t like Tom because her daughter Mayella liked him. Lastly, Bob abused Mayella and blames is on an African American because he knew that he wouldn’t get in
