He does this through what happened during the Salem witch trials, the characters and what he was going through (The Red Scare). The Salem witch trials began during 1692, a group of young girls in Massachusetts claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused the local women of witchcraft. The court in Salem heard the cases and convicted many as witches. Eighteen others followed while some 150 more men; women and children were accused over the next several months.
