Racism. Racism is when you discriminate against a person because of their skin color, racism is everywhere in the world even though you may not even know it. Many people are oblivious or just don’t notice when racism happens because they don’t want to believe that it happens they just ignore. The problem with racism is that sometimes the people don’t actually ever fight for them and those individuals don’t receive the justice they deserve. Near the end book, kids at there school wanted to do something so I they decided to help. Jill stated to Quinn. “ some of the student clubs at school were planning a protest march on Friday. It would start on the West Side, go right by Jerry’s, and wind its way through town to city hall and Police Plaza 1. The march through town would begin at five thirty p.m., approximately the same time Rashad had been arrested for petty theft, resisting arrest, and public nuisance—whatever the hell that meant. (211)”. This shows that Quinn and Jill both believe that should fight for him and that they can’t just sit around and do something they need to try to fight back against this. When Quinn had made his descion on wether or not he was going to protest, he decided to tell his mother. However his mother wasn’t very happy about it, and it ended up in a fight. I’m already there, Ma. I was there Friday night. Ma, I saw it. I’m right in the middle of it, which is why I can’t do nothing” (264).
