Overcoming Bias Racism, as portrayed in the United States, serves as a powerful site to examine the wrongs that persist in society, showing the urgent need for deep regret, understanding, and structural change. Even though there are bad thoughts about what people are doing, the people still fight for what's right. Layers fight for what's right, even if the community does not agree with it. In To Kill a Mockingbird, reflects the issues of black mistreatment because Tom Robinson, a black man, was accused of raping a white woman. The lawyer named Atticus does not care how the public looks at him, he protects people of all races. Atticus' job is to protect those from right vs wrong, and if it's wrong, his job is to fight that. The cops immediately reacted and tackled him, repeatedly hitting him. The beating of Rashad affected not only him but his friends as they were upset that he was beaten. A lot of his friends were even blowing up his phone. One said, “U IN the hospital? WTF” (lee 99) his friends were very worried about him, he didn't answer leaving them in fear that something bad happened. His friends were not the only ones mad; the community was upset and the way that they showed that was the took the video of the beating and showed it on the news. Rashad's experience is a reflection of the injury that existed. Despite the fact he's innocent, he was judged based on his skin color, not his actions. This incident not only highlights the issue of racial profiling, but it also shows the horrible impact it can have on people's lives. The quick misjudgment by the cashier and the immediate, violent response of the cops shows the issues within the justice system, where assumptions can escalate to life altering consequences.
