Going against society is common theme for people getting what they want. People including Dr. Martin Luther King and Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, two people that were able to create worldwide change by going against authority. Although not everyone would agree with what these people did, they accomplished social justice by rebelling against authority. The need to rebel is necessary to accomplish true social justice. A person should be able to go against a social norm to get what they want. This does not mean it has to take a violent approach. Going against society is common theme for people getting what they want. People including Dr. Martin Luther King and Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, two people that were able to create worldwide change by going against authority. Although not everyone would agree with what these people did, they accomplished social justice by rebelling against authority. The need to rebel is necessary to accomplish true social justice. A person should be able to go against a social norm to get what they want. This does not mean it has to take a violent approach. In Dead Poets Society John Keating is a transedalist thinking teacher in a strict private school. In talking to a more old-school teacher, Mcallister says ¨Show me the heart unfettered by foolish dreams and I’ll show you a happy man”(Dead Poets Society). Keating replies “But only in their dreams can men be truly free”(Dead Poets Society). In our dreams we can go against the unthinkable, their is no authority as it is what someone creates. Keating was a inspiring teacher, as he influenced his students to defy the school’s authority and recreate a banned extracurricular group. In the past couple of years we have seen true social justice come to light in the world. Through Black Lives Matter, Ukrainian government and abortion laws we have seen people stand up for what they believe in through protesting against their government. Most governments are not suitable for people but this contract of laws like Thoreau says “Government is at best but an expedient; but most governments are usually, and all governments are sometimes, inexpedient” (Thoreau 181). The government or authority of a country is simply not sophisticated enough to please everyone and ultimately becomes necessary for people to rebel to get what they want. These protests have shown so much good in the people of our nation,that the government would never be able to contribute to. Thoreau would defend going against the government as he says “The character inherent in the American people has done all that has accomplished; and it would have done some what more if the government had not sometimes got it its was” (Thoreau 118). Without people going against the government to bring out the good in a nation, there would be no people. People choose to go against authority because it is for their own well
