Throughout history, people of color in the United States have faced various forms of exploitation and domination. However, they have also resisted and fought against these injustices in numerous ways, including cultural resistance, legal resistance, social activism, and armed struggle. In this essay, I will discuss how African Americans and Chicanx/Latinx communities have resisted oppression and domination and the significance of their resistance.
African Americans have a long history of resisting exploitation and domination, beginning with their enslavement in the United States. Despite being stripped of their freedom, African Americans found ways to resist their enslavement through various forms of cultural resistance. For instance, enslaved Africans maintained their cultural traditions through music, dance, and religion, which served as a form of resistance against the dehumanizing conditions of slavery. They also used various forms of social activism, such as organizing revolts and rebellions and helping others escape slavery through the Underground Railroad.
