Engaging in Scientific Conversations This Essay is a close reading of the passage number 3 in Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle’s Conversations on the pluralities of worlds. After reading the passage selected in-depth, I believe it was Fontenelle’s goal to demonstrate that anyone can be an active participant in scientific discussions. During the 19th and 20th centuries Men reigned supreme. The lack of rights for women and poor people sparked protests and were the cause of the appearance of rights activists. Civil liberty issues in the American past have been resolved in the aspects of women’s rights and poor people’s rights but based on perceptions, little has been resolved. Women’s civil liberty issues have been resolved through Women’s rights activists and many years of pushing for constitutional equality.
Barbaric, which means extremely cruel, are what the mongols were called because of their cruel, violent actions. They have a bad reputation which led them to be called “barbaric” or “barbarians.” They clearly have done brutal things but the question is, how brutal, or barbaric, were they? From my understanding of the mongols and what I have read about them, they are very cold-blooded and evil.
Geology is the fundamental basis in understanding our earth and the processes which occur within it. Studying the physical side of geography at GCSE level, investigating the make-up of the earth and researching in regards to volcanism and tectonic activity inspired my interest in studying geology. I was introduced to A-level geology with practical work which strengthened the foundation of my knowledge of the subject; having a hands on approach with rocks and minerals. Soon, I was able to interpret paelo-environments using geological laws, rock types and fossils; this was engaging for me as the order in which the rocks were lithified and altered by other processes could be put together like a jigsaw puzzle; this stretched my understanding of the subject further.
Geography is the study of Earth’s features such as terrain, climate, vegetation, soil, and other physical characteristics. These features affect the way that civilizations grow and survive. Civilizations need to be near areas that can provide them with food, water, and supplies to flourish and sustain themselves. Whether the civilizations survived or not was based on their geography and therefore determined their fate and history.
Exploration and discovery have played a huge role in the process of science. In different areas of arts and science exploration and discovery have been used. The discovery that I wrote about is the discovery of Uranus. A man named William Herschel in the year 1781 discovered the planet of Uranus. Carbon exists in the earth as CO2, and in organisms as sugars or carbohydrates.
