People need to take responsibility for the issues that they or someone else may have caused. If no one takes responsibility for issues then the issue will get worse. Even if the person does not have an affect on the issue, it may affect them in the long run. Steinbeck’s, Of Mice and Men, and sexism in the work place are both affected by the responsibility someone takes for certain issues. If we do not take responsibility for issues bigger than ourselves, then it may turn into a more serious issue or it may not get accomplished. In the novel, Of Mice and Men, the characters face many issues. such as racial power, treatment of the mentally ill, and migrant workers. An example of this is when Curley’s wife says “Well, you keep your place then, nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain’t even funny.” (Steinbeck ). Whites had the power to do whatever they wanted to blacks, even if it meant killing them. This was a very big issue and nobody would take direct responsibility for it, so it continued. Another issue was the treatment of the mentally ill. Lennie was believed to have a mental illness and was not able to do most things. This relates to the treatment of the Mentally Ill. Treatment of the Mentally Ill was a huge problem because people would basically torture them. Treatment was electrotherapy straight to their brains and doctors believed this cured mental illnesses. This was also an unfixed issue until someone figured out, it did nothing. One last issue shown
