The movie “Do The Right Thing” by Spike Lee, illustrates the issues with discrimination with a mix community. Major problems rise when stereotypical views, racism, and conflicts flare between the varied ethnic groups. A difference of opinion and views caused the issues to erupt. Stereotypes are defined by a common trait or behavior in an ethnic group. African Americans are portrayed as loud, overreacting, and chaotic individuals, when simple confrontations arise.
I agree with the author Claude M. Steele because I think the effect of stereotyping have on someone is that it strips the person of their individuality and put them in a group that they don’t belong in. it’s make people make assumptions about others based on age, gender, and appearance and make it’s hard to get to know that people for who they are. If a person try to prove someone wrong about a stereotyping than the other person might call them racist or be rude to them. So they just let people to say a negative stereotype about them even if it not true.

Stereotype happens on an everyday basis, similar groups of people are categorized by such factors as race, color, what they wear, and their behavior. A stereotype is a fixed and basic image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. A person who is often stereotyped is expected to live up to society's expectations, or so the stereotype suggests. It can be suffocating for an individual to live through preconceptions because it is not who that person is. These stereotypes cause others to dismiss that individual as a person and the qualities they have. Such stereotypes still exist now and have been impacting many people for a long time.
Class Stereotypes Stereotypes are seen as overgeneralized ideas, images, or beliefs of a person based on a group of people. Stereotypes can either be taken or said in a negative or positive way but mostly seen in a negative way. Stereotypes are formed on a life experience, idea or a belief a person may have towards one person based on the person’s gender, race, religion or social class. (Doc. C) If we don't force or establish any specific groups everyone will then begin viewing each other as equal instead of someone higher or lesser. A stereotype is a fixed set of beliefs upon of a certain group of individuals who share common traits. Stereotypes can be classified into a wide range of categories such as: race, culture, ethnicity, gender, social or economic status, and religion. Minorities have made significant strides towards equality in American society. In America the minority groups are being stereotype due to their ethnicity. The media has had a significant impact in passing the stereotypes to the work that have convey negative impressions about certain ethnic groups. Minorities have been the victim of an industry that relies on old ideas to appeal to the "majority" at the expense of a minority group ideals (Horton, Price, and Brown 1999). Stereotypes have been portraying negative characteristics of ethnic group in general.
Men are strong and do all the work, all teenagers are rebellious, all blondes are unintelligent. These are just some of the common stereotypes and misconceptions often used in our world today. This is society's way of judging and grouping individuals, without ever having a conversation with them. In high school this grouping is often referred to as cliques, but these closed off parties of people appear in all walks of life. The brain wants to group people automatically, it is a natural, almost unavoidable, instinct to place a person in a certain group.
Have you ever looked at someone and immediately thought, “ They truly deserve to be treated the worst because of their look,” yeah, me either, this is an example of stereotyping. In my opinion, stereotypes should not be distributed around anymore. There is no point to it. Why criticize someone for something that is out of their control ( such as religion , culture, and looks)? I understand some people have different mindsets and claim they do not know right from wrong, but that gives no excuse, we shouldn 't stereotype in general.
People get categorized by stereotypes everyday just by outward appearances or the group of people they are associated with. A stereotype is a preconceived notion about a group of people. People form fixed images of a group that are assumed that all group members act and behave is a particular way. A person essentially gets stereotyped by being “guilty by association” of a particular group. All stereotypes get based off of a bit of truths that all group members similarly have.
