Everyday people live through stereotyping. Every age, looks, enjoyments, and personality is looked upon and set a labeling on. People live with that every single day. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird is written in the perspective of a young girl named Scout. Later on becomes mature and the better understandings on things, they way her father Atticus shows her. As she grows more mature there are people around her getting stereotyped by the way they are. In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee acknowledges that there is stereotyping and labeling involved with social class, race, and maturity.

Cunningham repays him in a sack of green turnips. This is where we first see social class because as Scout asks Atticus if they are poor Atticus explains that they are poor but not as poor as Cunninghams. Since they are more poor people view them differently because they can not afford as much. And this helps Scout realizes and helps her get a better understanding of the real world by being more aware of how society is ranked. Lee shows that the based on the social classes shown throughout the novel that society shows that the poorest ones are more to criminals and doing things against the law. Lee shows this by the father of the Ewell does unlawful things. Atticus explains to Scout what one side of the lower class does, and Atticus says, “ ‘It’s against the law alright,’ said my father, ‘and it’s certainly bad, but when a man spends his relief checks on green whiskey his children have a way of crying from hunger pains.’ ”(Lee 41). Bob Ewell spends his days hunting and drinking whiskey. While he is hunting he is doing it at the wrong place and wrong time to hunt. Since he is always out getting drunk the children have to pay for it. In the novel and outside world can relate to, as you are younger you are not as wise. Scout is at a very young age and the people she is around are much older and they have a better perspective on things, especially on people. As Jem is naming the different type of people, Scout sees people all the same and Scout says, “I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks.” (Lee 298). Lee acknowledges that maturity is in society and Scout does not understand that there is more than just one type of Folks. As the others are older they can understand and relate to knowing the difference between the folks around town that they civilize with. When you are younger you are younger you are not as wise. Which that goes not completely understanding things. Atticus says that you will not understand people unless you can be their shoes. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it” (Lee 36). When being young you are not completely aware of your surroundings. As you get older and you are around people you see a totally different view of people and can understand them.
