Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch makes many comments in relation to the events in the book and the 1930s. For instance, he talks about blatant and immoral segregation between black and white people, especially during the trial of Tom Robinson. However, many of Atticus’s statements can be related to any period in history, even today. Namely, rape and sexual harassment in Hollywood and strict ideals in cultures. All in all, the most important events that can relate to Atticus’s quotes in the book is the generalizations and stereotyping of Muslims in society today. Atticus’s speeches and quotes about the stereotyping of all black people in Maycomb can easily be related to the labeling of Muslims today as terrorists. For instance, “You know the truth, and the truth is: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some Negro men are not to be trusted around women 一black or white. But his is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men” (Lee 204). In certain groups or races, some people are unlawful, but this does not make other people guilty by association.
