There are a lot of controversies when it comes to the topic of immigration. Specifically illegal immigration. However, I rarely ever hear anyone talk about the different treatment certain ethnic groups get compared to others. For instance, Latin American immigrants are far more discriminated against in comparison to any other immigrant group. When it comes to Latino Immigrants, they are often considered unwanted and are seen as a threat to American society, which leads to discrimination and negative treatment. Latinos are forced to assimilate into the dominant culture, earn lower paying wages, and face more restrictive immigration laws. Many Americans have negative connotations regarding the Spanish language spoken by Latino immigrants. This negative attitude towards their language often leads to discrimination in the workplace, education, and other public settings. They are often forced to assimilate into the dominant culture, which means abandoning their native language and culture. In addition to these factors, Latino immigrants also receive lower wages, discrimination in housing, and education, and access to healthcare services. Many of them have migrated from their home countries seeking opportunities and a better quality of life, yet they often find themselves working in low-paying jobs with limited upward mobility. Some might disagree with the fact that Latinos assimilate into the dominant culture and say that there are plenty of resources and tons of help that Latino immigrants can obtain. For example, many workplaces have Spanish speakers. Yet Latinos are still told to speak in English because this is America.
