Self-will is the willingness to motivate yourself to fight and keep moving. Night by Elie Wiesel is about a teenage boy living through the horrors of the holocaust. Moving from camp to camp Elie and his father Chlomo are suffering the harsh conditions at any and all camps. Which forms a question in my head, How did he survive? Was it because of his determination or was it just sheer luck.
Power is addictive to humankind, people can not help but crave more than their share. Night by Elie Wiesel is a memoir that bears witness to the abusiveness of control. The book follows the author, Elie Wiesel, in his horrific experiences of the Holocaust and how he survived. In many situations people with higher status took advantage of people subordinate to them. Although many believe that fear is a person’s main downfall, power is an extremely manipulative source that causes the decline of people who have it and who do not.
Ever since humans came to be, they have done many things to ensure their survival. It’s the reason why we humans have evolved as much as we have. Humans have invented devices, accomplished many challenges, and have even relied on nothing but willpower to survive. When somebody survives a tragic event they are left with some terrifying memories that haunt them forever, but a few survivors are courageous enough to share their experience. Obviously, one of the shared experiences is the book called Night by Elie Wiesel.
Wiesel also loses hope in humanity because of the violence. For example, he starts to lose faith in surviving because he thinks that humanity has changed as a whole, because all the horrendous things that the Germans are doing. Wiesel has changed through the book because before the holocaust he was hopeful and after he has grown an shell of deliel towards humanity .Wiesel states “One more stab to the heart one more reason to hate. One Less Reason To Live”.
Primary or Secondary? Should survival be your primary goal in life? I believe that unless you're in a life or death situation survival shouldn't be your main goal. A very good example of a life or death situation is the holocaust, The book “Night” by Elie Wiesel describes his experience as jew during that tragic event moving from concentration camp to concentration camp eating scarce amounts of food. In many cases other goals seem to overshadow survival like protecting family, For example, in “Night by Elie Wiesel he should be thinking about himself however he gives his food to his father who is a hindrance to him at this point because there are going to come times were survival is going to overpowered by other goals.
Everywhere we go there is a place in time and space that we can find hatred and evil that surrounds us but in between that hatred we can still find love and gratitude that persevered that hate which is kindness. I will be comparing the book Night and the article Jakob's story in the theme of kindness and Hate and will be discussing where these events occur followed by their meaning . In the setting of Hate one can still find kindness All throughout the book Night by Elie Weisel there are many examples of kindness in a setting of hate. We can see this by the example of the quote “I felt a cool hand wiping the blood from my forehead.
In the memoir Night, Elie Wiesel brilliantly illustrates the Nazis’ use of fear as a device to command the prisoners in concentration camps. In addition to exploring the ways in which the Nazis use fear as a tool of power, "Night" also examines the effects of this power dynamic on the Jewish prisoners themselves. Every prisoner was pushed to their mental limits. Fear was overwhelming. Such fear is shown to have caused many inmates to believe individual survival was superior to the condition of their fellow prisoners.

In this book, Wiesel relives and tells the horrors and nightmares of what his friends, family, and himself went through while in the camps.
In Night by Elie Wiesel the author shows resilience is how people survive through difficult times. Elie shows resilience by never giving up hope on surviving and working hard to keep his life going to make it out of the war. Courage is a word that used often or not, has it’s own meaning. Having courage to do the impossible is experienced in our everyday lives without even thinking, such as, taking out the trash, going to school, taking a step onto a unknown street, it happens to us all and can even have a dramatic impact on yourself, your future, and your life. In the book Night courage is experienced every single day of torture. Prisoners, such as Elie, face and fight for their own survival not knowing that their best weapon possessed in their hands was courage. Courage was a weapon, a very powerful weapon that could change your fate in an instant.
In a situation where your body is surviving on a thread, your stomach is inflated due to starvation and all the strength you had before is gone, you have to rely on mental and religious strength to carry you through your hardships. In Elie Wiesel’s “Night”, Elie talks about his personal experiences and hardships he faced during WWII and his life at Auschwitz as a young boy. Throughout the story Elie pushes through losing his mother and sister, lashings, seeing babies burned alive and the fear of death but also the hope for it in some situations. No amount of physical strength can help someone survive in the brutal place Auschwitz. Everywhere in the story Elie and other characters show that with mental and religious/spiritual strength, you can push through any hardship you have to face.
In the span of a lifetime one often faces many adversities that stand within their path. While some challenges will be overcome easily, others will take a lot more tenacity. When in the face of adversity it is key not to give up. One should always strive to persevere through their hardships, no matter how severe they seem to be.
