Ever since humans came to be, they have done many things to ensure their survival. It’s the reason why we humans have evolved as much as we have. Humans have invented devices, accomplished many challenges, and have even relied on nothing but willpower to survive. When somebody survives a tragic event they are left with some terrifying memories that haunt them forever, but a few survivors are courageous enough to share their experience. Obviously, one of the shared experiences is the book called Night by Elie Wiesel.
11 million people endured a violent murder at the hands of Hitler's Nazis without doing anything wrong. Around europe Jewish people suffered and slaughtered like animals under the Nazi and their concentration camps lived a life of death and horror, but some survived conquering death and abuse, resisting the odds and surviving. One of these people went by the name Elie Wiesel. Wiesel survived the oppression and insurmountable obstacles pushed in front of him by the Nazis because of his undying stamina.
Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from difficulties. It is the ability to bounce back, no matter if it 's an object or person. As Margaret Thatcher said, “You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.” In the book, Night, by Elie Wiesel, a young Elie Wiesel and his family are taken from their hometown, Sighet, and sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. In this book, Wiesel relives and tells the horrors and nightmares of what his friends, family, and himself went through while in the camps.

Elie Wiesel assert this by show loss of faith, brutality and suffering Elie Wiesel, for a period of time of his life, experienced many things witnessing many deaths and malnourishment for years.
In Night by Elie Wiesel the author shows resilience is how people survive through difficult times. Elie shows resilience by never giving up hope on surviving and working hard to keep his life going to make it out of the war. A specific instance is when they have begun the run from one camp to another with the SS shooting people who were left behind “I kept repeating to myself ‘Don’t stop, don’t think, run!’ Near me men were collapsing into dirty snow. Gunshots.”
Traumatic experiences often lead to a decimation of humanity around people. This causes people to distrust everything, sometimes even themselves. In the beginning of the story, Elie explains his general mindset about himself during the time of his depression. The Holocaust, which is such a negative turning point in his life, causes him to lose the will to live as more people were quickly dying around him as well. He recalls the events, and tries to determine the purpose of his survival.
Consequently, adversity results in inhumane activities that lower a person’s morals, values, and esteem. Adversity promotes loss of self-identity and self-belonging. Upon arriving at Auschwitz, Elie and his father faced a life or death situation. Elie chose to change his identity to escape death; he did this reluctantly. Sadly even at fifteen, Elie had learned that the wrong character could kill him, which his Jewish ethnicity nearly had already.
Courage is a word that used often or not, has it’s own meaning. Having courage to do the impossible is experienced in our everyday lives without even thinking, such as, taking out the trash, going to school, taking a step onto a unknown street, it happens to us all and can even have a dramatic impact on yourself, your future, and your life. In the book Night courage is experienced every single day of torture. Prisoners, such as Elie, face and fight for their own survival not knowing that their best weapon possessed in their hands was courage. Courage was a weapon, a very powerful weapon that could change your fate in an instant.
Imagine knowing your fate ahead of time. That single moment would be stuck in your head, replayed every second to prevent it. This would obstruct your feeling of morals, making you only focus on your own survival. Nothing would get in your way of trying to survive. During the Holocaust, many people were faced with this moment when they stepped in a concentration camp.
Survival of the fittest The theme of survival of the fittest is shown throughout the memoir Night. Night was written by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. In this memoir Elie explains as well as shows survival of the fittest, by sharing his story of his struggles along with countless other Jews during the holocaust. He illustrated the theme of survival of the fittest in the memoir night through the situations of Elie lying about his age during selection, the Rabbi's son leaving his father, during the death march, and the son killing his father over a crust of bread.
The human condition is a very malleable idea that is constantly changing due to the current state of mankind. In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, the concept of the human condition is displayed in the worst sense of the concept, during the Holocaust of WWII. During this time, multiple groups of people, most notably European Jews, were persecuted against and sent to horrible hard labor and killing centers such as Auschwitz. In this memoir, Wiesel uses complex figurative language such as similes and metaphors to display the theme that a person’s state as a human, both at a physical and emotional level, can be altered to extreme lengths, and even taken away from them, under the most extreme conditions.
In the span of a lifetime one often faces many adversities that stand within their path. While some challenges will be overcome easily, others will take a lot more tenacity. When in the face of adversity it is key not to give up. One should always strive to persevere through their hardships, no matter how severe they seem to be. The author of the memoir “Night” Elie Wiesel, vividly describes his experiences in the concentration camp of Auschwitz.
Hope is a helpful tool to push people through the hardest times in life. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, there are numerous examples of hope helping people and revitalizing their confidence. People used hope to help them through rough times. People hope that friends and family are still alive. Also hope that the Front liberates the camps and frees everyone.

The main character is the author because this is an autobiographical novel. Eliezer was a Jew during Hitler’s reign in which Jews were persecuted. The book starts out with the author describing his faith.
