In Ray Bradbury’s short story, “The Veldt”, the author’s main message is technology is not always a good thing, especially when technology is in the wrong hands. Technology can actually ruin somebody’s way of life. Also, technology today seems to be overpowering to today’s human lives by being the main focus point in life. In the story, “The Veldt” George and Lydia are the parents of two children, Peter and Wendy. George makes the purchase of buying his family a “smart house”, the HappyLife Home. The HappyLife Home is a house that is nothing but technology. The house even bathes, ties shoes, dresses, and feeds the family. “Now we're going to really start living. Wendy and Peter become way too attached to the nursery and eventually turn it against their parents when George decides to turn the technology off. The quote, “When I punished them a month ago by locking the nursery for even a few hours- the tantrum he threw!... They live for the nursery.” shows how attached the children have come to the nursery. “The two children were in hysterics. They screamed and pranced and threw things. They yelled and sobbed and swore and jumped at the furniture.” (page 182) Since the kids are so attached, and George decided to take charge and turn the technology off, the kids turn the nursery against their own parents. “Mr.Hadley looked at his wife and they turned and looked back at the beasts edging slowly forward, counching, tails stiff.” (page 182) shows that the kids rather sacrifice their parents for the technology in the nursery and the house. The quote, “Lydia, it's off, and it stays off… The more I see of the mess we’ve put ourselves in, the more it sickens me.
