The film ‘The way’ by Emilio Estevez shows viewers examples of the seven deadly sins through the main characters Tom, Joost, Sarah, and Jack as they all walk El Camino de Santiago for different reasons. Tom does it to honor his son, Joost does it to lose weight, Sarah does it to quit cigarettes, and Jack does it to cure his writer's block. They start the movie off deep in their own deadly sin but the more they go on the more it seems like they’re healing from their sins. By the end of their journey the group has helped each other overcome their problems by supporting each other and becoming a family. Throughout the film Tom shows the deadly sin of pride. An example would be when he brought three bottles of wine when it was only Tom, Sarah, Jack and himself. He also orders a lot of food when the group stays at the nice hotel. However, Joost’s sin can not be gluttony because food and drink is only a small part of his problem. In the film the viewer sees Joost look at his food and can notice that it looks like he doesn’t really want to eat any of it. Which leads the viewer to believe that his sin is more than just wanting to eat more food than he should. This is why his deadly sin is lust, since he craves the feeling of pleasure he gets from the easiest things he can access which is usually food, drugs, alcohol, and adrenaline more than actually doing the action …show more content…

She shows her anger by having unprovoked outbursts quite frequently. When the viewer first meets Sarah she is rude to Tom for no reason just because she was upset over having to quit smoking cigarettes after her journey at the Camino was over. Later in the film she wants to know what Tom keeps in the box and help him put it back in his backpack and when she asks he is unwilling to accept her help so but instead of backing away the viewer sees Sarah wrestle Tom for the box and ends up punching him. After this incident she is seen apologizing to Tom for her impulsive actions which she explained that she used as a defensive mechanism due to her past abusive relationship. Nevertheless, instead of anger Sarah’s deadly sin could actually be envy. The viewer gets an example when she gets envious that Tom has a better stamina and doesn’t have to take frequent breaks from walking and that he’s faster compared to Sarah and Joost that are younger than him, slower, and have to take plenty of breaks. The viewer might also be able to conclude that she is envious that the others are more able or motivated to complete the walk than her. Still anger is more fitting with Sarah because she has a violent background and it would make sense for her to be mad for no apparent
