People don’t like to be proven wrong. When they are proven wrong they do drastic things to try and prove they aren’t. For example, in the cases of the West Memphis Three and the Central Park Five, people were proved wrong, but still did wrongful things, because of their ego. With modernized technology constantly coming out, it is important to use the new technology to have a more fair and accurate justice system.
The three people accused in the West Memphis Three case were Jessie Misskelley, Damien Echols, and Jason Baldwin. They were accused of murdering three eight-year-old boys. The girls that accused Damien Echols of being guilty testified that he killed the boys, they had no other evidence or details of the crime. Damian also had said he wanted to become a priest. The knife that was found out of Jason Baldwin’s house was found suspiciously quickly and there is no proof that it was his knife to begin with. Additionally, the knife found would not have been able to peel the skin off of the penis the way the bodies were found. The knife was far too dull. There wasn’t any blood found at the crime scene so the crime more than likely happened at a different location. Jesse Misskelley only has an IQ of 72 which means he is more than likely unable to pull of a murder of this magnitude. There wasn’t any physical or forensic evidence at the crime scene and the prosecution had no proof that the men were involved in the crime. Other victims that night say that they had witnessed these boys mugging elsewhere in the park during the raping and beating. Eventually, someone revealed with DNA evidence that the five boys were innocent. The trials of the West Memphis Three was an extensive trial. They were found guilty several occasions until finally the three men were able to leave prison (after the several years of being in prison) only if they would say the Alford Plea.
