Theme Statement
In the story “The Great Gatsby”, readers are remined that two of the main characters are intertwined in a forbidden love. I feel that the overall theme of the story would be “Even though love seems like the strongest force, there are many other forces that are much stronger and can impede on your everlasting love.” Examples of these forces would be social status, money, and revenge.

When she arrived, he is incredibly nervous, and bails out last second just to come back again. Once Daisy and Gatsby start talking, he talks about his riches and shows her his house. This is where he is trying to impress her and trying to get her to fall in love with him again.

Gatsby bought the house that is across the water from Daisy’s. The reason he did this is because at Daisy’s house, there is a green light across the waterway. He threw his massive parties in the hopes that one day maybe she would show up and fall back in love with him again. And every time she didn’t, he would go on his dock and look at the green light to signify their love.
