Time is the concept of continuous change. Although it is broken up into the past, present and future, time moves gradually. Many thrive to be able to relive the past but when we try to live in our past it can limit our future. Our eternal existence is in the present and all we can foresee is our future. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, published April 10th 1925 in New York portrays the main character Jay Gatsby spending his entire life devoted to pursuing Daisy Buchanan's love, a woman from his past. All in an effort to attract Daisy Buchanan, a single woman, he would host lavish parties with open invites. Daisy, on the other hand, was born in a wealthy environment. She was born into riches, married into wealth, and planned to remain in wealth. Realizing this, Gatsby continuously worked on elevating his reputation in order to win Daisy over. Gatsby is unwilling to admit the distance that Daisy and he have developed over the past five years. Along with the obvious outcome that their relationship will never be the same again since she is too far gone. After five years of not seeing each other Gatsby awaits Daisy on a gloomy, rainy day. When he and Daisy reconnect she has married a rich man that has a mistress. Gatsby and Daisy claim that they still are in love with each other, yet she loves someone else too. A few weeks later Gatsby is shot to death and Nick, who was Gatsby's only friend makes attempts to get others to attend his funeral. Nick was unable to get neither Tom nor Daisy to show up.
