Tris, Choices, and Divergent
The job of the main character is to bring the story to life. An example of this is in the novel Divergent. Veronica Roth is the author of the three-part series with the first book named Divergent. Beatrice Prior, also known as Tris, the main character is used by the author to bring the story to life. The main character Tris, from the novel Divergent displays a selfless nature, demonstrates bravery and remains intelligent throughout the novel.
One of the first traits Tris reflects, possesses, and constantly displays is selflessness. This trait likely comes from her mother. Growing up in Abnegation, Tris is taught to put others first and be selfless. “I pinch the bridge of my nose. Scrubbing the floor when nobody else wanted to” (Roth 209). Tris scrubs the floor when nobody else wants to. She does not enjoy it, but it is something her mother would want her to do. To be selfless and think of others first. Tris is a selfless Abnegation at heart who later transfers to Dauntless, she consistently shows the reader how she puts others before herself.

Literally. “The last thing I want to do is stand in front of that target, but I can’t back down now” (Roth 162). Tris shows bravery to the readers and to Eric, the Dauntless leader by standing in front of a Target to get knives thrown at her willingly.
