In Mary Shelley novel called Frankenstein, the character of the Monster is shown as a true monster. A real monster is someone who withholds information, lack of remorse, and avoid responsibility, lying and many more. Victor Frankenstein created the monster, but Victor is also a very complex character in the novel. Victor created the monster for scientific researched; he was studying the dead and wanted to be the first person that brought the dead back to life. He spends time and years concentrating on succeeding this goal that he had to give up on his family members and friends. Victor first act of being selfish was when he first created the monster and brought it back to life and he abandons the monster. He abandoned the monster because he was horrified that someone will find out what he has done. He created the monster without telling anyone so no one knew the monster was out in the world but Victor himself did. Victor brother William was killed and Justine was blamed for the murdered. While Victor went back with his family during the hard time he withholds knowledge of whom the true murderer was. Even though he knew who the real murderer was he was still being selfish because he didn’t want to blame for the monster and what he had done. “Justine also was a girl of merit, and possessed qualities which promised to render her life happy: now all was to be obliterated in an ignominious grave: and I the cause!” (54). He admitted to himself that he is responsible for Justine death. He was trying to save himself the blame that it causes a life to be taken even though Justine did not commit the murder.
