Like in all great stories, the climax is one of the best parts in the story. The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, is no exception to this with its great fantasy action and plot. The main conflict is Man vs Man, as Mare joins the “Scarlet Guard in hopes of”(pg 115) helping “her family”(pg 17) as she is a Red, “the lower class slaves to the Silvers” (pg 4), against the Silvers, “the ruling class”(pg 5). Although Man vs Man is the main conflict, Man vs Himself is the underlying conflict as Mare tries to identify “who she can trust” (pg 186) during her time at the “summer castle” (pg 59).
Please describe The Renegade Queen to readers who haven 't heard about it yet The Renegade Queen follows the extraordinary life of Victoria Woodhull from her childhood in the 1840s to when she was forced to live abroad in the late 1870s. Although she grew up in a poor and dysfunctional household and was even sold into marriage, she managed to influence the course of social and political events. She was the first female stockbroker, the first woman to testify in front of Congress, one of the first women to run a newspaper, and the first woman to run for President. She ran for President in 1872, approximately fifty years before women could even vote.
“The words force themselves past my lips, though they come out as barely a whisper. ‘I love you’” This is the very first time Mare Barrow is speaking her love instead of only showing it. The late 19th century was a monumental era for the city of Paris. As the city kept growing and increasing in popularity around the globe, the city itself was being modernized from its dated medieval layout. These modernizations had a direct impact on the culture of the city, the lifestyles of its inhabitants, and the prominence of the city across the world. Paris’ inhabitants were as social as ever, and often enjoyed themselves at cafés and bars. This modernization acted as a perfect catalyst to support the surging wave of capitalism across Western Europe.
Red Queen, an award winning, New York Times Bestselling Novel, by Victoria Aveyard takes place in the Kingdom of Norta in 320, New Era. After a series of natural disasters nearly destroyed the North American continent and exterminated the human race hundreds of years ago, this fantasy novel takes the reader through the adventures and challenges Mare Barrow face. Hundreds of years ago with the continent left in fragments and the human race nearly gone, there was a divide. This divide was in the color of blood humans had, either red or silver. Those with silver blood possessed supernatural abilities and eventually turned what was left of North America into a monarchy where silvers ruled over reds.
Representation and portrayal of real-life experiences of marginalized people are often polarizing as there is a concern regarding the work's authenticity. Hidden Figures, a movie adapted from the novel written by Margot Lee Shetterly, provides an excellent pro-feminist and culturally critical re-telling of the lives of 3 of NASA’s most influential black female mathematicians during the civil rights era. The feminist lens is a critical theory based upon ideas of sex, gender, race, discrimination and equality which acknowledge the presence of power systems in place to oppress individuals based on these core concepts. The lens also proposes that when these power systems and forms of oppression are acknowledged, understanding and advocacy can occur (Egbert and Roe). As such, when one applies the feminist lens to Hidden Figures, it is seen to be very pro-feminist.

According to the standards, Jane is in the lower class than Emma. Jane’s role in the story is to provide the contrast to reveal Emma’s true nature around those she feels are inferior to her. Through Emma, “ Austen explores how the lack of manners or the possession of false manners (lacking sincerity and putting manners on for show) in the place of true, good breeding and gentility could cost upper-class people the full deference due to their position” (Koziar 39)”.
