I believed that John studied Jesus deeper than any other disciple. For, the revelation of verse 1-5 has a deep meaning to those who desire to know how the word has always existed.
The introduction to this passage is one of the summits of Scripture. In fact, it probably reaches the highest of human thought. What is the opinion that reaches the height of human concepts? It is this: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is
#1 the Word of Life
#2 the Creator of Life
#3 the Very Being and Essence of Life
These three truths have to be deeply thought about to understand their meaning. A quick reading of this passage leaves a person disinterested, not even to understanding what is being said. Jesus was the Light of the world witnessed by a Special Witness "John The Baptist," John 1:6-8 In John 1:6-8, there was a person who was a very special witness of Christ, John the Baptist. John's sole purpose on earth was to witness and to bear testimony to the Light of the world. His purpose stands as a dynamic example for every believer. The purpose of the believer is to bear the same witness as John: Jesus Christ is the Light of the world.

John was a great man, but he was not the Light (v.8) Jesus, the Light of Men, was recognized by the second witness, John the Apostle, John 1:9-13 The sum of these verses lets us know that the world is in desperate need. It is full of darkness; the darkness of sin and despair, sickness and death, corruption and hell. The darkness looms over the whole world, which is the problem dealt with in the present passage. There is no hope in Jesus Christ, for Christ is the true Light, and Light dispels darkness.
