Antonin Scalia was a Supreme Court Justice who was appointed by President Ronald Reagan. He was a well-rounded judge who stood for the Constitution, and the way the founders intended the constitution to be conceived. He was a conservative judge who stood his ground for what he believed was the correct thing to do. Leaning to the conservative side, Scalia made a decision to uphold the constitution. He believed the constitution was not to make change easier, but delay or prevent change. Scalia voted against the Affordable care act, then voted for same sex marriage the next day because he believe the constitution stood for the right to marry and be happy with anyone you would like. With these guidelines, one person in particular stood out to President Trump. This was Judge Neil Gorsuch from Colorado. He was the oldest son of two lawyers which gave young Gorsuch a prominent start in life. He succeeded in his classes at Colombian University and continued to thrive at Harvard Law School. Starting young, he began his career after Harvard as a clerk for Judge David Sentelle and later to be a clerk for Judges Anthony Kennedy and Byron White of the United States Supreme Court. These positions gave Gorsuch a pretty sharp record. Gorsuch then went on to Oxford University to complete his education with a doctorate in legal philosophy. Two years later he served in the United States Appeals Court the Tenth Circuit. He became known for his belief in the Constitution and it being understood as intended by the founders expressing majorly in the rights of freedom of religion, as well as freedom of speech. Gorsuch also believed that the executive branch had acquired much more power then what the founders of the constitution wanted. Gorsuch will probably have different views even from his Republican counterparts. Gorsuch is a Protestant from the west, while all the other judges are either Catholic or Jewish. (Ott) All the other Judges are from the east side of the country while Gorsuch is from the west possibly allowing him to have different views.
