In our society, people are endlessly curious about a question, which is “How old is the universe?” Were they able to come to a resolution about this question? The answer is yes, this question was solved by a famous American Astronomer named Edwin Hubble. The discovery started when Hubble found out about the expansion of the cosmos since the Big Bang had occurred about billions of years ago. Not only is the universe getting bigger, it’s simultaneously getting faster in acceleration as well. An interesting notion about the expansion of the universe is not just the rate at which it is expanding, but also the implications. One of the implication, is that if the

The significance behind the Big Bang, is that it is responsible for the creation of the universe and provides an origin story. I have concluded that people who generally believe the universe is billions of years old, also believe in the big bang theory; however, there are still many people who disapprove of this theory. “The big bang is a secular speculation about the origin of the universe; it is an alternative to the Bible.” I believe that the big bang explains the origin of the universe without God, therefore, this has always been a contradiction to the Bible about how the universe came into existence. Many religious people still deny the occurrence of the big bang because it goes against the biblical philosophy, about how God was the creator of the universe. This is why the calculation is significant in order to understand how old the universe is, and to see where you stand in this universe. In the article “Not the God you pray” by Adam Frank, the author mentions, “We now take our next step toward a renewed perspective on science and religion, and that step goes far backward. Only by looking back to our origins can we see the common root of both our spiritual and scientific impulses in the ancient universe of myth.” Despite the scientific and cultural difference in both science and religion, when it comes to the origin of the universe, they both have the most important thing in common, which is the creation of this universe. Both of these origins have helped people evolve and change their beliefs throughout the century. Many have still held onto their views, but respected others, because of their worldview or how the individual understands and makes sense of the world they live
