Was the French Revolution Successful? "The tree of liberty only grows when watered by the blood of tyrants." - Bertrand Barère de Vieuzac. The French Revolution saw its beginnings in 1789, due to many factors, and it was an attempt of the lower class to raise, they intended to obtain power, so the Third Estate could destroy the absolutism of the monarchy, they demanded rights, freedom, and most importantly, justice, all of which they achieved with great successful. I personally believe that French Revolution proved to be a successful reform because a Constitution resulted from the conflict, thus limiting the power of the monarchy and providing rights to the people; political, social, economic, and religious modifications arose that would change France in the long run; and despite of being a long-term outcome, monarchy was abolished with the early birth of democracy. The Constitution of 1791 set up a limited monarchy, turning around the role of the absolute monarchy that had ruled France for centuries. The new Legislative Assembly made laws, and collected taxes. It abolished the old provincial courts and it reformed laws. Also it protected private property and supported free trade. The royal and noble did not pay taxes and had it quite easy compared to the peasants. The king cared about nothing but himself. The Revolution got rid of the suppression of religion, allowing religion freedom, and the old regime was completely destroyed. Also, feudalism was abolished. Nobility and Church privileges ended. The French Constitution by the National Assembly in 1789 established the principle of democracy for the first time. Freedom of religion was also declared.
