The death of President Lincoln sparked a new era in the United States. It set forth new boundaries for what would take place in the American frontier. At age 16, Cornelius Vanderbilt bought his first ferry boat with a loan of $100. With his shipping industry well under way, he was given the nickname of “The Commodore”. He was very competitive and earned the reputation of being a “cut-throat” business man.
Technology was improving, with the telegraph, the railroad, and advances in gun manufacturing. There were advances in agriculture, such as John Deere’s new steel tipped plow. They also started building houses with bricks. Furniture was now being mass produced and was cheaper. Everything seemed to be improving, but their health was not improving.
The groups of people that were most changed by these new innovations were factory workers, middle-class urban residents, and midwestern farmers. There were many effects that these creations had on these groups of people. These innovations allowed travelling and the transporting of goods to be easily accomplished, made communication between others simpler and more efficient, and allowed for better and safer ways of lighting to be established. Automobiles allowed for travelling and the transporting of goods to be easily accomplished. The creation of the automobile was extremely beneficial for midwestern farmers, middle-class urban residents, and factory workers.
Can you imagine living in the 20th century without any roads, railroads, and canals when trying to travel somewhere? These different types of transportation helped impacted the American society between 1815 and 1860 were road, canals, and railroads. These forms of transportation have helped the American society in the 1800’s and continued to evolve in the America it is today. The transportation revolution made traveling easier.
Transportation Revolution The transportation revolution is believed to have begun in 1807 when the government seemed it was going to become active in growing infrastructure. The treasury secretary, at the time, Albert Gallatin was asked to develop “a plan for the application of such means as are within the power of Congress, to the purpose of opening roads and making canals” (W&R). This plan was not to happen and throughout this revolution the government was only responsible for a few projects. Without much government aid, entrepreneurs took matters into their own hands, creating competition.
Railroads, roads, and canals changed and improved America in the 1800’s in multiple ways, ways including exploration and expansion. Railroads and roads both helped travel and transportation of objects within America. Railroads and roads also helped get from one point to another in a fraction of the time. Canals helped mainly transportation with other countries and travel time that would accelerate how fast it took a ship to get to it’s destination. Roads helped expansion and exploration.
Change abounded between the end of the nineteenth century and the period following World War I. Choose one of the topics listed and describe the transformation that occurred. Be sure to include specific examples in your description. • Modernism • The Harlem Renaissance • The youth culture Modernism: Newtonian Physics is kicked out by findings of Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and Max Planck which established a new relative universe model wherein everything wasn't so structured like in Newton's "world machine." This led to a new notion in society which was taken to extreme measures by the nihilist Friedrich Nietzsche.
Innovative ideas and technologies in transportation significantly impacted the America during, and after the Civil War. The Civil War was also drastically changed due to the amazing discoveries and innovations in transportation. Railroads were what was mainly used to supply America with munitions, troops, food, and etc. during the Civil War. America benefited from the invention of the railroad due to the ease of use for every American.
Transportation During the Revolutionary War Transporting goods and supplies took a lot of time to arrive at its destination. transportation they mostly used were wagons or ships. An example of this is when the tea brought to the colonists were brought by the east india company was carried on boat. Lots of the supply routes were known so they got raided or attacked for their valuable goods. Transportation was important in American Revolution by transporting useful goods, food, supplies, weapons anything that would help out the troops and townspeople of that colonies.
The building of roads, canals and railroads played a large role in the United States during the 1800s. They served the purpose of connecting towns and settlements so that goods could be transported quickly and more efficiently. These goods could be transported fast, cheap and in safe way through the Erie Canal that was built to connect the Great Lakes to New York. Railroads were important during Civil War as well, because it helped in the transportation of goods, supplies and weapons when necessary. These new forms of transportation shaped the United States into the place that it is today.
Before the Gilded Age, transportation of any sort was slow, unreliable, and unavailable. However, with the invention of the assembly line and some invention, mass produced automobiles, subterranean trains, elevated trains and basic airplanes were spread out. Therefore, during the late 19th century, transportation was allowing for extreme expanse of trade and economic capability. One of the most prominent methods of transportation even before this time, railways were experiencing a major change during this time. Though it would eventually cause a stock market crash due to the closure of two major rail businesses, the roads themselves saw considerably more traffic due to a major expansion of the system.
Since transportation was easier and faster, people could live in the suburbs on the edge of towns. For example, queens outside New York doubled in size in the 1920s. By the end of the 1920s, more than 26 million cars were sold, and lots of new towns were created. Another advancement that is important is the development of trucks. In the beginning, trucks were old fashioned and had lots of flaws.
Furthermore, transportation has been booming. There are electrical cars that reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere, thus lessening the depletion of the ozone, as well as metros that are essential in big cities. Unlike in the 80s when one had talk on the phone with
Slowly after the 1900’s different types of planes were being made and they had certain purposes. Big sturdy planes carried a lot of cargo, long thin planes carried passengers. Now almost everybody has rode a plane, it is really an amazing mode of transportation! The Wright Brothers changed the way aerodynamics works by, teaching thousands of pilots how to maneuver a plane.
