In the 1500’s and 1600’s, Europe dived into an era of exploration of new trade routes. Exploration carried out by explorers like Cortes, Diaz and Da Gama led Europe into new lands. The main motivations of these explorers were to gather spices and gold. Their countries were infatuated with the spices of Asia and with precious metals. Religion was not the main motivation for European exploration during the 15th and 16th centuries; however, the search for wealth was.
The European Age of Exploration had a few causes. One of them being the Ottomans who controlled eastern trade routes and were looking to expand. The missionaries in India allowed for Christianity to spread and flourish in the world. Without the search, colonization, and conversion of India, the world we know today would be delayed if not nonexistent. European exploration began during the Middle Ages. During the late 13th century, Italian explorer Marco Polo went on a 25-year overland journey through Mongolia and Japan in search of a route to the Far East for trading textiles and spices. By the mid-14th century, the Ottoman Empire had conquered most of the area between Europe and the Far East, and Arab traders were charging expensive fees for their spices.
Age of Exploration During the Age of Exploration, trade was very important because it caused the triangular trade. The continent Europe (mainly the countries Spain and Portugal) changed the economy of Europe in the Age of Exploration. Spain changed the economy when Christopher Columbus was set to find Asia going west of the Atlantic. Instead of finding Asia, Columbus found a new land, known as the United States of America.

With these commodities they could gain wealth. “Long before the sixteenth century the Crusades had introduced European people to the goods and luxuries of the East. Some goods, such as spices, became necessities, but they were becoming increasingly costly.”
The Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English all wanted to explore and settle the New World for a variety of reasons. The European nations were searching for political dominance, and they would do whatever needed to be done to get it. An example would be the power hungry Spaniards who took control over the Aztec empire. Spain was much more advanced than the Aztecs and used their advantage of guns, horses, disease, and exploitation to swiftly conquer the empire. Another major reason for the Europeans expansion was their desire for wealth and gold.
Monarchies and merchants alike were searching for faster, safer routes to trade with Asia. Marco Polo and others had traveled to Asia and brought back both wild tales and exotic wares. These goods and stories sparked interest in trading with the East. Although the Portuguese had many devote their lives to exploration, Spain was the first to encounter and conquer the New World.
There were Spain, England, France, Russia and China expeditions that visited all parts of the Ocean including Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean basin. Europeans were not the only people who explored the larger world. However, what makes the Europeans go on a new world excursion to explore new lands? It is to claim new lands, to make their own empire stronger by obtaining natural resources and to develop new empires.
Why did the Europeans explore the seas? The Europeans explored the seas because they wanted to gain more power, money, resources and spread religion. Columbus had sailed and promised he would collect money, resources etc. At the time christianity was big and the Europeans wanted to spread more of christianity around the world. For a long time Europeans have been searching for new land and trade routes which lead the Europeans to explore the seas.
One cause for European exploration was their desire for wealth. Europeans were looking for new materials and to trade with new civilizations. Another cause for European exploration was to spread Christianity throughout the world. Europeans also wanted to expand their country by finding undiscovered land. This caused conflict between European countries.
They resorted to violent methods and tried to make the Natives take them to the real gold thinking that they were just hiding it from them. One reason as to why the Europeans began their exploration of the Americas was that they wanted to find a new trade route to Asia. Columbus believed that if he sailed west, he could reach Asia faster than traveling on land or going around Africa. Asia had the spices

Some religions were spread through the routes and some were forced their religions onto others, and lastly technology has developed throughout the years and now, it is very common to use. Firstly, economic motives lead to European Exploration. “Europeans desired such luxuries as silks and jewels, they needed Asian spices” (Henry Burn 377).

It comes when a person is willing to sacrifice his own time, money and energy to do well in a particular task. In the movie The Pursuit of Happiness, Chris Gardner who lost almost everything in financial crisis ended up living as homeless with his son. He was jobless and unable to support his son and wife therefore his wife left him.
