In Othello, the main characters involved reveal the necessary facts to make the plot work. Othello is married to Desdemona, which serves as the catalyst for the play. Othello is older than Desdemona by many years. Since Othello is married to Desdemona the main antagonist, Iago, is manipulative for selfish reasons. Iago leads Othello to believe that Desdemona is unfaithful. Othello chooses to trust Iago, which leads to Othello killing Desdemona by smothering Desdemona. Throughout the play, the reader learns that Iago does favor women. Iago does not want Othello’s position in the Venetian military. Another necessary fact is that Iago desires to unseat Cassio to take his position. The play begins in Venice, but the majority of the play takes place
