Australia operates as a constitutional monarchy, meaning it is a federation and a parliamentary democracy; this allows the people to rule and eliminates the corruption of controlling governments. Australia has a Queen, who resides in the United Kingdom and is represented in Australia by a Governor-General. Australia bases all laws and decisions off the Australian constitution to ensure rules and proceedings are fair to all citizens. There are three roles that are highlighted throughout the Australian government and political system, these being; the Australian constitution, three levels of government and the freedom to have access to variety of political parties. The three levels of government are federal, state and local. Each manages different problems or matters depending on its place in the economic system. The federal or commonwealth government is responsible for conducts of national affairs. Matters such as military and national security, health care, currency and taxes are managed by federal government in the high court and parliament house. The State government is stated to be responsible for everything not listed as federal responsibility. Though, each state of Australia has its own constitution setting out its system of government, all is for the benefit of residents of the state. The main areas of accountability are schools, roads, hospitals and environmental conservation. Local government is given power from state government to make local laws and provide services for local the community, district or region. Local government have control over local infrastructure, recreational areas, aged care and child care. With the use of separate governments within the country, it is easier to handle appropriate matters as the people who have the authority to deal with them are closer to the problem.
