Kennedy Shank Mr. Samek ELA 10 18 May 2023 Lady Macbeth was talking to Macbeth about murdering King Duncan due to Macbeth considering backing out; Lady Macbeth uses ethos, pathos, questions, and imagery to convince Macbeth of killing King Duncan. In Act I Scene VII, Lady Macbeth addresses Macbeth regarding killing King Duncan. The thought came up when Macbeth received a prophecy saying that he would be King, which then led to him wanting to be King sooner rather than later. After Macbeth brought the idea up to Lady Macbeth, she was on board to go ahead with it and, at the time, so was Macbeth.
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Malcolm's character is defined by his strong emotions that guide him in the play. The first one of his emotions that guides him is his pride. You can see this when he decides to come back to Scotland to take back the throne. The second emotion is fear; this is showcased when Malcolm flees to England after Macbeth takes the throne. The last emotion is grief, due to the passing of his father at the hands of Macbeth.
Furthermore, I found that there was one part of the play that I think is very important is found in Act 1 Scene 7, particularly Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s conversation about their plot to kill the king. Through out the play Lady Macbeth criticizes her husband’s inability to be manly and carry out their plan to kill the king by constantly pointing out his flaws. I think that the grief of losing their child is what causes
Coping with Crisis According to Freudian psychoanalysis, humans, as a whole, have three main parts to their psychological identity. These parts are the Id, which desires judgement and decisions based on primitive inclinations, the SuperEgo, which desires judgement and decisions based on morals and ethics, and lastly the Ego which tries to balance power between the Id and SuperEgo. In “Macbeth”, the famous seventeenth century play by Shakespeare, each character is crafted to cope with crises differently; some are healthier than others. Two of the most common ways of coping are to fight or flight.

In the beginning, he had many good qualities of himself but as the story goes on those qualities start to change into something else, something evil. For example, His Kindness quality, his ambition changes after meeting the witches, and his Tyranny ways change. Macbeth ends a whole new person by the ending of the story and not in a good way.
Shakespeare, like any other man in the 16th and 17th century, saw ambitious and dominant women as evil and even disturbing or disturbed. From Macbeth, we can see Shakespeare feels women should be challenged and punished because they are trying to change society. Nowadays these ambitious and dominant women are regarded as brave and respected because of their ambition, such as Lady Macbeth’s ambition to become Queen. Through keen use of action, soliloquy, and dialogue, Shakespeare causes any audience to react sympathetically to Macbeth’s negative attributes and perhaps even relate. For instance, Lady Macbeth’s manipulation is an aspect many readers can level with. Once it becomes clear that Macbeth’s mental health is diminishing, the audience inevitably begins to pity him. In his final moments, the desperation Macbeth feels is hard for the audience to ignore. Evaluating Macbeth’s character in full rather than focusing only on his negative attributes inevitably evokes sympathy from the reader.
Throughout the play, the witches have a strong influence on many characters. MacBeth listens to their prophecies and tries to pursue ultimate power because of them. The witches are an example of supernatural beings and change in natural order of events. The witches prophecies were seen as concrete and not able to be altered, so by MacBeth trying to usurp and affect his future, he reaps the poor consequences of his actions. The witches are stronger and more powerful than MacBeth because they have all-power and the ability to forever alter the course of someone’s life.
This debate between the pity found in Macbeth’s mental state and the fear he evokes through his actions continues as Macbeth becomes a vicious tyrant. Not only does he kill off more of those around him, including the family of MacDuff, all for the sake of proving his power over those around him, but he rains famine and tragedy across the land. Macbeth’s inhumane actions easily draw fear from the audience as it expresses how uncontrollable and deranged, he has become; Macbeth is truly far from the hero first introduced. Extensively Macbeth begins to trust fewer and fewer individuals, he becomes more paranoid about the things going on around him. Specifically he can’t sleep and fears loosing his power.
