"During the "Middle Ages", from 476 to about 1100, European civilization slipped into semi-barbarism". It was a very hard and bad time, but a lot of historians debate about if Europe was in a "dark age" or not. The evidence states that Europe was a dark age. There was a lot of evidence that states that Europe was not in a dark age.
In a time in European history, there was an era from the 5th to the 15th century known as the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages can often be referred to as the “Medieval period”, where buildings looked gloomy as they were made from gray cobblestone, and mankind was still in any idea of innovation, as they had no inspiration. Then during the 14th century, philosophy, art, and music were made exclusive, and became to some degree inspirational. Little did anyone know that was the beginning of a new era known as the Renaissance. Which was slowly but surely building a bridge which would lead the Middle Ages to the Modern Era.
Man’s view of the world changed greatly in a blink of an eye during the Renaissance, and for good reasons. The Middle Ages (which stretched from about 500 CE to 1350 CE), were a time of little schools, widespread illiteracy, and the Catholic Church ruling everything in Europe, meaning almost everyone had to look up to them to explain the world. During this time period, many of the population were peasant farmers named serfs under the rule of a lord who they worked for. However, At the backend of this period, the world started to change. Improved farming methods meant serfs depended less on their lords, meaning they could gain freedom and migrate to different towns to do different jobs such as being a banker or merchant.
The Middle Ages were a time where kings and nobles owned the land and serfs worked with little pay. Serfs were like slaves that worked on a farm (Doc. 1). They got one day to farm for themselves and the other six they were working for their king or noble (OI). Nobles and kings had knights called vassals (OI). Vassals were knights who protected and served kings and nobles in exchange for land (OI).
The Middle Ages was a dark time period. It was dark because education and culture were beginning to decline drastically. This is evident in document #1. As it states,”Europe suffered a decline in commerce and manufacturing, in education, in literature and the arts, and in almost all that makes possible a high civilization”. This detail demonstrates that the decline in education caused the civilizations to not reach their best potential and education began to become really rare to find as it was only accessible/available in Churches.
The Medieval Ages were a time where many things like romance, art, music, poetry, disease and death all thrived. Everyone in this time period had a different point of view on it. Some thought it was a golden age, some thought it was an age of feudalism, and some also thought it was a dark age. Yes, this time may have had its ups, but it also had many, many downs. Its darkest times consisted of Barbarian invasions, death, and wars.

The middle ages, from 600-1450 CE was a period of time that was referred to as the dark ages. Though this era was difficult for Europe, other places such as Asia and the islamic world were going through almost the complete opposite experience. The European dark ages greatly differ from the Asian and Islamic golden ages because of the advancements they were making in the areas of mathematics, arts, government, and more. Each paragraph of this research paper will talk about the different advancements that each place made during their golden ages, and for Europe, the dark age. Asia's golden age took place from 800-1100 CE, the Tang dynasty.
The middle ages has had a lot of changs but it also has a lot of things that continued to be the same. Religiously, the catholic church was still very powerful and it still is the most powerful religion. Economically, it has changed. Trade has became more relevant and used. Politically, it has changed, the power of the king was limited which made the king not the most powerful.
The Crusades were a series of military campaigns during the time of Medieval England against the Muslims of the Middle East. The period of the Crusades is primarily concerned with warfare and the art of assault and conquest. To begin with it seems fitting to establish the kind of warfare that was being fought before the Crusades, and to establish how they changed gradually over time. The key change in style of fighting was evident in the shift in the primary element of an army from infantry to cavalry. During this time in a region almost utterly alien to their native countries, those who took the Cross encountered different obstacles and challenges to their goal.
“ During the Middle ages much of Europe passed through a time of turmoil and confusion, of ignorance and lawlessness. Europe suffered a decline in commerce and manufacturing, in education, in literature and the arts, and in almost all that makes possible a high civilization. Europe became a a region of poverty-stricken farming communities, each virtually isolated from
The History Channel 's television series, Vikings, combines many elements of realism and fantasy. In Helen Young 's Re-making The Real Middle Ages, she points out how the media commercializes the whole idea of vikings, perhaps, in order to sell to more audiences by adding historically inaccurate elements such as supernatural aspects and unrealistic repeated triumph of the main action hero. Some realistic elements present in the show are the use of native language, brutal violence. It was also realistic how vikings raided, killed, stole treasure, and burned down the remainder of the town bringing back a few townspeople to sell as slaves. Some fantasized elements on the other hand happened in the beginning where a mysterious being in a black
