Courage, what is courage? Well from the dictionary the word courage means "the ability to do something that frightens one and strength in the face of pain or grief”. I believe I should be selected for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship because I am not the typical high school senior. When it comes to my education, I go about and beyond expectations. My desire to do my best in school shows consistently year after year. I put in equal amount of effort when it comes to my after school activities and community involvement. I was told at a young age that education was the key to success and from that point on I made it my main priority not to be the average student among those that settle for less but to be a outstanding student that rises to every occasion to take advantage of my education.
Ever since I was a young child I knew I had one dream I wanted to turn into a realty. Some kids would answer when asked what they wanted to be when they grew up where, “An artist,” “A princess,” “Rich and famous.” But at that age, I knew I wanted to be a pediatrician. Saving lives and helping children was a dream I wanted to turn into a reality. At a young age, I was taught to work hard for anything you wanted to achieve.
When I was 14, I saw my remarkable cousin walk across the stage to receive her award for all her years of dedication to be inducted into National Honor Society. She encompassed all the requirements for entrance into the National Honor Society and ever since then, I have had my mindset on following in her footsteps and stepping even farther to conquer the indefinite. As I opened the letter to be invited to apply for membership, I could not even remember the last time my eyes and smile sprouted that immense because to me, being nominated to be a member of the National Honor Society is an honor in itself. I would be thrilled to join such a society because of the limitless opportunities it would present to me. Joining NHS would allow me to grow as a person and do as much as I can for others.

This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
When I graduate high school, I plan on having future goals that I plan on achieving. My first goal is to go to college and get a degree. I plan on attending Purdue NorthWest majoring in engineering and minoring in business. This is my number one future goal that I need to accomplish because to be able to have a nice life, I need to go to college to support my future family. My next future goal would be get a starting job to be able to support my future family.
