I first became fascinated with the commissioned world when I arrived at my first duty station. Through day-to-day interaction with maintenance officers and brief conversations with pilots I quickly gained interest in becoming an officer. Once I discovered the LEAD program I discussed the possibility of attending the Academy with my supervision and they have supported me every step of the way. The responsibilities and expectations of officers does not deter me but instead attracts me. Strong leadership is vital in todays’ Air Force and I believe I can contribute to our great nation. Not only would the Academy hone my leadership attributes, but it also offers unique opportunities to develop leadership capabilities such as cadet squadron positions and BCT cadre.
I am the first person in my family to enlist in the military. If I were offered an appointment I would also be the first to attend a service academy, and upon completion I would be the first to earn a bachelor’s degree. Through online research and conversation with my cadet friends I have developed a desire to attend the Air Force Academy and eventually earn a commission as a 2nd Lt in the Air Force. Service academies offer unique college experiences due to their military structure, higher standards, and expectations of their cadets unlike public universities and community colleges. The lifestyle of a cadet intrigues me because they’re being trained to become officers, while also receiving an education and being pushed to be physically fit. I am prepared to take on multiple duties at once as it are required to succeed in everyday life as an active duty
