Today, Isalm is the second most popular religion in the world. Islam began in the seventh century when Muhhammed started teaching the ideas he recieved from Angel Gabriel. Within several hundred years it had past to part of Asia,Europe,and Africa. Three reeasons why Islam spread so quickly were that it began near trade routes, muslims conqured other areas, and people in conqured areas converted to avoid taxes.
The first reason why Islam spread so quickly is because it began near trade routes. “ Mecca was… prosperous and important… [and] was at the crossroads of the lucrative caravan trails.’’ By beggining in a rich and inporatant trading city like Mecca, Islam could spread rapidly to many diffrent cities and people because of Muslim merchants in the caravan.

“ Muslims forces took control of Syria in 636 CE when they fought the Eastern Roman Empire.’’ This helped Islam spread because when they conqured the new territory the Muslims brought Islam. The people who lived there might have converted. Also others might have gone with Islam since they were victorious.
The last reason why Islam spread so quickly is because people might have converted to avoid taxes. “ He and [each] of his muslim forces shall [also] pay one dinar every year.’’ The Muslims let the Christians keep their religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will be sacred objects be taken from the realm. The Christians have to pay one dinar every year. Some christians would convert so they don’t have to pay taxes.
