My colleague, Hadley Nodes, and I, Mary Ann Lopes, would like to explain why we fulcrum the following statement: “Resolved: In the United States, juveniles charged with violent felonies ought to be treated as adults in the criminal justice system.” We firmly support this statement because a crime is a crime, it may reduce future crimes, and juveniles are smarter than given credit. With global security being a recurring value in our argument, it comes to show that juvenile miscreants who commit violent crimes should be tried as an adult, which will result in potentially dangerous criminals off of the streets and in confinement.
