A crime is a crime but it should trialed fairly regardless the age and the raise of others. Kenneth Young a 14 year old who was involved in an armed robbery was sentenced unfairly. Justice prevailed in Kenneth Young's sentencing, because of immaturity, teens or even kids are getting sentenced harder than adults, and rehabilitation. At the age of 14 everyone has a slit of immaturity and they don’t think with their head but with random reaction. It has not just been proven but also studied, “Brain imaging studies reveal that the regions of the adolescent brain responsible for controlling thoughts actions and emotions are fully devolved,” (Garinger 1).
A writer for The Economist by the name of Estudillo Mary Onelia had a very strong opinion on this topic. Onella stated, “Trying minors as adults will toughen the system and hold someone responsible. Minors must be fully culpable for their behavior if we are to deter future delinquents from committing violent crimes,” however; this is not the case. Placing a juvenile in prison is not teaching them how to be lawful adults it is locking them up in a building where they are exposed to older criminals whom will not set them on a successful
Juvenile Justice Essay In the United States, there have been many cases where a juvenile would be found guilty and be tried as an adult. There are other cases where those juveniles are tried as adult forever. I am against charging juveniles as adults when they commit violent crimes, the juveniles lose many educational opportunities and the adult system is far too dangerous for the young juveniles. Juveniles are also young kids but only the fact that they do not get the same amount of education or experience that other teens gain.
Juveniles should be treated as adults for serious crimes because of punishment. Children should be tried as adults because they could be surrounded by dangerous criminals and look up to them as if they’re making the right decisions. They could not know better if someone told them, ‘We want you to go out and do your first killing, and don’t worry
Others, will play the victim by arguing that they felt their life was in danger and committed the crime out of self defense. Juveniles also argue, that they are unaware of the consequences of their actions. Whatever the reasons for a juvenile committing a heinous crime, they are still responsible. Age and immaturity should not be reason why a juvenile should not be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. I believe that juveniles should be held responsible for their action and thus, be sentenced to life in prison.
When people commit crimes, there should be disciplined no matter what. Juveniles need to learn that their behaviors have consequences. Why should kids be given any less of a punishment for committing the same crime? According to one author, “Taking a life is murder regardless of the age of the offender, and the penalties to be imposed must not discriminate. After all, the victim’s life will never be returned, and the family will permanently lose their loved one” (“7 Top Pros and Cons of Juveniles Being Tried As Adults”).
Kids think because they’re not adults they can get away with murders but that is not the case. Many kids try and solve their problems with violence and end up making federal crimes. The law was created equally towards everyone and giving people who commit serious crimes a break would leave the streets dangerous. Kids feel that when something doesn’t go their way they want to kill the person or hurt them. Everything has a consequence and juveniles should be tried as adults.
Juveniles should be tried as adults due to being aware of their crimes and having an intention to kill, however, brain development and maturity can play a role into the reason why teens kill. With being tried as an adult juveniles should be granted the opportunity of freedom pending on their rehabilitation status and if requirements are not met, convicts will have to complete the remainder of their sentence. People have long argued that juveniles who commit a murder should not be tried as an adult due the juvenile not being aware of their crime. Awareness, as defined by the Webster Dictionary, is “the knowledge and understanding that something is happening or exists”. Having the perception to comprehend the occurrence of an event is not a dumbfounded characteristic.
In my opinion, I think that juveniles should be prosecuted as adults depending on the type of criminal offense that he or she commits. If a juvenile commit petty crimes such as petty theft, disorderly conduct, vandalism, etc. then I think that they should be tried in juvenile court. However, if a juvenile commit any of the seven deadly sin in criminal justice then they should be prosecuted as an adult. The seven deadly sin include: Murder, rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated sodomy, and aggravated child molestation.
This happens because these juveniles feel like a small ant just waiting be to smashed or crushed by someone foot and what I mean by this is that they need to be heard since they have needs and wants. We have to be prepared and ready to judge a juvenile because things may not like the you want to see it. We should change the way our juvenile system works. When juveniles commit crime they should be treated differently from any other adult criminal. Know I ask you, should they be treated different from any other adult
You might think that adult prison may be too harsh on children, but if you heard the story about 18 year old boy Kendall Davis being charged for violent assault you would understand children being charged as adults. Do you really want a kid capable of doing that walking the streets and getting away with it. I will be talking about 18 and under children should be tried as adults! I have 3 reasons for my thinking first I have juveniles repeat offending, next I have longer sentences are better and last I have treating kids more like adults for their crime. In my next 3 paragraphs I will explain why children 18 and younger should be tried as adults.
Moreover, there is no way to know if the crime committed was by force. One might feel bad that if a young teen was in prison several years. Although, as a young teen, he should not have been sentenced for it, for that long. One could be in serious trouble for committing a murder, but not sentenced for thirty five years. Therefore, young teens who commit crimes should not be tried as adults in courts of law,
In our society, crimes are being committed not only by adults but by juveniles as well. By law as soon as a person turns 18 they are considered to be an adult. So what if an adult and a juvenile were to commit the same crime yet were sentenced differently simply based on the fact that one is a child and one is an adult? Juveniles are committing violent crimes just as adults and should be given the equal treatment and sentencing as adults receive. Juveniles aren’t completely ignorant as everyone seems to think.
Juvenile Justice Should juveniles get treated as adults that’s one of the biggest controversy in our nation now days, with many juveniles committing crimes that are inconceivable according to their age. Judges have the last word on how to treat this young people. Many people argue that “the teens that are under eighteen are only kids, they won’t count them as young adults, not until they commit crimes. And the bigger the crime, the more eager this people are to call them adults” (Lundstrom 87). This is why people can’t come to a decision as how these young people should be treated like.
Can you imagine waking up behind closed walls and bars? Waking up to see your inmate who is a 45-year-old bank robber and you are a 14-year-old minor who made a big mistake. This is why minors who have committed crimes should not be treated the same as adults. Some reasons are because the consequences given to minors in adult court would impact a minor’s life in a negative way. If a minor is tried through a juvenile court, they have a greater chance of rehabilitation.
