Imagine this, you are on a baseball team with your friends and your team is 0-12. You guys are still having fun and don’t really care about the games, you just like hanging out together and getting the participation trophy. Is it really fair that teams work really hard to win and get a trophy, but you can just show up and hang out with your friends and you will also get a trophy? Therefore, there is no real reason for trying at sports so you can win and get the trophy. Kids should not get trophies for participation because it can make kids like the sport just because of the trophy, not for the actual sport and it doesn’t help them prepare for life in the real world.

John Irving once said, “My old coach used to say that if you were in it for the match, if you were in it for the trophies, you were in it for the wrong reasons”, this is a famous quote about how you shouldn't just play sports for the trophies you should play sports because you like them. Participation trophies can make kids like the sport just because of the trophy, not for the actual sport. But on the other hand, it may make kids like sports for the trophy, not the sport, and they will eventually realise that they don’t actually like sports and that may lower their confidence and self-esteem. Additionally, to stop kids from liking sports just because of the trophy, not for the actual sport and it doesn’t help and to help them prepare for life in the real world, kids should not get trophies for participation. You may not have a kid or kid in sports but it is still important to teach yourself and others how to earn your achievements, not to get them handed to
