Explain Why Nations Use A Range Of Energy Sources

Nations will use a range of different energy sources because the demand in their country will be so high that they cannot fulfil them by using only one energy source. The use of coal power produces harmful gases to the environment and it is non-renewable. This is why countries need to find an energy source that is renewable, such as wind or wave power. The downside with this type of power is that it does not produce enough electricity to fulfil the demands of the nation that is required.
The upfront cost of wind turbines are expensive but once they are up it will produce electricity when it is windy so overtime it will pay back the initial cost. Wind is free so the more turbines you have in that area the more electricity you will generate. …show more content…

Coal is non-renewable so eventually it will run out and countries will have to use other forms of power generation. Coal is expensive to acquire because you have to find an area that is rich in coal and then hire workers to dig it up. Nations use coal power stations because it can be used continuously to produce electricity. In many countries coal power stations provide most of the electrical energy used. Coal is the most largely available fossil fuel on the …show more content…

Nuclear power stations do not produce smoke particles to pollute the atmosphere or emit gases that contribute to acid rain. Nuclear power stations generate less greenhouse gasses compared to coal power stations. Nuclear power generation emits low amounts of carbon dioxide. The emissions of greenhouse gases and the contribution of nuclear power plants to global warming is relatively little. This means that nuclear power is more environmentally friendly then coal power generation. Most nations will use nuclear power stations because they generate a high amount of electrical energy in one single plant. Nuclear power stations do not require a lot of space so they do not need a large area of land like a wind farm. But they have to be built near a large body of water so that they can use the water as a heat sink. This is convenient because you do not need nuclear power station in or near large cities or towns which is safer for everyone nearby. Nuclear energy is the most concentrated form of energy, which means that a lot of energy is produced from a small amount of fuel. This is better than other forms of power generation because you can produce a large amount of electricity on less fuel. Nuclear power is reliable, it does not depend on the weather. Whereas wind power is dependent on wind so there could be days where no electricity is generated at all because there was no wind. We can control the
