Students should have less homework because of stress. Students should get less homework everyday because too much homework can cause a great deal of stress. Too much homework requires a lot of time to complete, and it impacts freetime and sleeptime. This can cause a great deal of stress and potentially lead to health issues in the body and mind. This can lead to body issues because students have to wake up early to get to school and when they get there they just spend their day sitting around, by the time its p.e people might still be tired from teachers lectures and taking notes. Studies shows that students are getting too much homework every night, it shows that kids are required 3 times less homework then given to them. The stress in too much homework can cause behavioral problems and similar things in that category. Kids in K-12 are getting too much homework because teachers are not following the 10 minute rule. The 10 minute rule starts of with kindergarteners. They are required 10 minutes of homework a night but is getting 20-30 minutes which is to much for kids their age. Once you get in a higher grade the ranges get higher. First graders are supposed to get 20 minutes a night, second graders are supposed to be given 20, third is 30, forth is 40, fith is 50, sixth is 60, seventh is 70 and so on. “Critics argue that homework given to students especially the younger school children are too much to handle. If this is the case, homework can be a stressor instead of a motivator. If bombarded with lessons at school and even at home, children might lose interest and worse, dread school days. This is a concern that bothers some parents and even educators.” With all these other activities from school, both academic and extracurricular, students, specifically the younger ones, are already tired when they get home.
