Grasping for Freedom For most young adults, their sixteenth birthday is something they have been waiting for their entire lives. This is the day that most teens receive their driving license. Researchers are beginning to question the legal driving age of sixteen and have suggested the idea that it be changed to eighteen. I believe that the day you turn sixteen you should be granted the same freedoms and responsibilities that teens have been allowed to have for many years. Allowing teens to receive a driver’s license at sixteen not only teaches them responsibility but also benefits the entire family. For most of a child’s life, they have had to gradually take on more responsibilities. As a young child, these responsibilities could be as simple as performing a daily chore. At the age of sixteen, teens need to begin to practice life long habits and should be allowed to take on much larger responsibility. Personal transportation is something all children will have to use as an adult, and teens should begin to take on this responsibility at sixteen. As a new driver, my parents have enjoyed teaching me the task of driving in a safe environment. When a child turns sixteen, most adults are relieved of the constant inconvenience that children create. If a child has to wait until they turn eighteen to obtain a license, they will be dependent upon their parents until they enter college. By acquiring a license at sixteen, students will be able to transport themselves and other family members creating an easier lifestyle for busy parents. Furthermore, young drivers can now help their parents by transporting themselves and siblings to important school functions and sports
