A theorist is someone who reflects on facts, using collected facts they will come up with possible explanation. In addition, theorists observe different phenomena and abstracts they will spend a lifetime trying to prove them. A theory in education is set of principles that are practices of daily basis in an educational setting (Vocabulary, 2015). This paper will focus on three theorists and the explanation of their theories.
The three theorists that relates to my teaching style are Montessori, Piaget and Vygotsky. The principle of Montessori methods is to support the natural development of children in a nurturing and well-prepared environment. Montessori had basic principles in the Montessori Method such as respect for the children, absorbent their mind, auto education, a prepared environment and the sensitive period. Using the Montessori theory a teacher role is to follow the child interests and needs, have the environment well prepared and supportive to enable learning. Piaget believes that intelligence comes from what a child thinks not based on IQ testing, but cognitive development. Piaget believes all children think differently at different stage of their development. Piaget theory focuses on active learning through physical and mental engagement, physical activities leads to mental stimulation, which will lead to mental activity. To support mental activity a role of early childhood teacher is arrange the classroom for the children to explore and interacts with peers and adults. Using Piaget theory in a classroom a teacher role is pay attention to the child adaptation in the classroom.
