When schools work together with families to support learning, students tend to succeed not only in school but through life as well. The most accurate predictor of students achievement in school is not income or social stature, but the extent to which that family is able to play an active role in their education. By creating a home environment that encourages learning and expresses high expectation with proper support, children are able to flourish. In a publication conducted by the National Education Service, strong parent involvement directly correlated to student achievement, student behavior, and culture and age. I will work to create programs and interventions that engage families in supporting their children's learning both at home and school. The more families support their children's learning and educational progress, more their children attend to do well in school and continue their education. Effective programs that engage families ultimately embrace the philosophy of partnership. At Lemon Grove Academy, significant efforts over the past several years have been made to make the families a bonafide part of the school culture through outreach and volunteer opportunities. Families can be found on campus throughout the day volunteering in classrooms, in the office or in the parent room. When walking the halls of our school, there is a 100% commitment to the school’s motto “Together, anything is possible!” In order to meet the needs of our diverse student population, our student has created three action step that will be taken to improve parent involvement and engagement.
