Toxic Air Intake (Smoking)
A huge issue many people fight against each year is smoking. According to the World Health Organization, about 1.1 billion people are smokers. That is one in every three adults. About 1.1 billion people -- one in every three adults -- are smokers, according to the World Health Organization (How many people around the world smoke cigarettes? - Quit Smoking 2015, April 7). There are commercials that talk about how smoking slowly deteriorates and ruins one’s body. Teenagers fall prey to smoking on regular basis, due to peer pressure and curiosity. Many cancer foundations have informed people all about the health concerns that come from smoking.

Teens are one of the biggest groups susceptible to start smoking. They see one of their favorite actors in a movie, or on television smoking, so they want to be fashionable like them. According to research by Greene (2015), the Center for Disease Control states that forty-four percent of teenagers that begin smoking, start because they have seen smoking in movies. In past years, it was acceptable for billboards and advertisements to publicly display anything that would encourage teens and adults to smoke. Advertisements of all types show people having a good time while they smoke. They look happy to be holding a cigarette, or cigar. This positive influence causes many people to want to start smoking. New commercials have come out about the way in which to smoke more efficiently. Vaporizers and E-cigarettes interest teens more and more, because of the fun, fruity flavors, and compelling smoke that they make. Their ambition is to only smoke while they are young, and then get away from it when they become older. Smoking is highly addictive, making it much harder for anyone who is an active smoker, to get away from the habit. Nicotine in cigarettes, give people a buzz that keeps them coming back for more. People in general, see others smoking, so they feel a sense of social comradery when they smoke as well. Some people use hookahs to smoke. In this type of smoking water vapor and tobacco are smoked from long tubes. It has become more of a social event, since people are able to pass around the tube and talk. An article written by the American Cancer Society says, only four to seven percent of people, succeed, in quitting smoking without some kind of help (Is smoking tobacco really addictive? 2015, February 7). Because of the abundance of information known about smoking, most adults over twenty-five do not start smoking. In fact, a recent study of the 2012 Surgeon General’s Report states that there is a very few amount of people that start to smoke after the age of twenty-five.
