Although many attribute the e-books as a recent technological advancement, the first e-book was created in 1971 by Michael S. Hart (Siegle, 2012); however, the extreme popularity of them has occurred within the past five years with e-books growing in popularity by 4,456% (Brown, 2016). During the advancements of technology, classrooms and teaching styles are constantly changing and updating to keep up with the new technology that is available. In a secondary classroom, the students are familiar with the use of Google, and the search abilities that it holds. Due to the students’ young age and ability to quickly adapt to new circumstances, they are oftentimes more aware of available technology than teachers are. E-books are a way that schools would be able to add a differentiation of technology in the classroom and library. Although the financial responsibilities of e-books appear daunting, the lack of destruction that can occur with print books as well as the access of free copies on the internet can minimize the cost deficit. There is also a lack of use of print reference books due to a large number of databases that are able to pull many possible articles and chapters that are applicable to the topic in just a matter of seconds. In an ever-changing technological society, the education system must maintain pace with the new developments as it prepares students for higher education and the work force, where these different types of technology will be used. An addition of e-books to classrooms and libraries across the nation will aide students in their reading strategies while increasing their technological skills. Although print books are still valued in a scholastic setting, e-books are changing the way schools research and read material—educators must adapt their teaching methods and material to be able to produce exemplary
